I have had a lot of questions regarding the purchase of digital images. I will be adding 2 separate options to the investment category on my site:

Digital selection: You may purchase any image(s) of your choice for $50 each with a minimum purchase of $200 (total purchase may include image(s))*
Complete Digital selection: You may purchase images from your gallery (up to 30 images of your choice) for $500 with a $100 print credit included.*
*percentages off do not apply to image portion of your total bill.

Since I did not previously offer this I am having a special through Dec. 31, 2009. If you would like to purchase images from your previous galleries from 2007-2009 (which your orders were already completed and prints received) you may purchase them at a discounted rate of $40 per image or up to 30 images from one session for $250 no minimum purchase required.

I have been having a lot of questions recently about purchasing images and image rights. I thought I would do a little explaining about why I currently don't sell them. (keep in mind I am not a writer :-))

A little bit of background about the process first and my time into photos :) please read the article here. Which does an excellent job breaking down what photographers such as myself do and the time I put into photos.

Why choose custom photography?

In other words. you are really getting a good deal. So why don't I just sell CDs of images? For a few reasons. One being I take great pride in what I do and my photos and have sought out the best places to develop my photos and take time to edit to bring out the best. So when you get the photos they are on professional paper creating a lasting treasure. I have seen photos that have been developed by a client that were from a professional and the cheap paper just doesn't do it justice they look just that cheap. That isn't something that I want associated with my name. I don't want someone to say "oh look at these great photos that julie did" and have them on cheap paper. I put my heart into my photos.

I have recently had a discussion about this with another pro photographer (who told me my prices were too cheap :) The conclusion I have come to about image pricing will come in a later post. I am still pondering it.

I am a mom, who is addicted to photos of her kids. I know what it is like to have to say no to getting all the photos that you want. I have had to do that, I still do that. That is why my prices are what they are even though someday I may have to change them, I would prefer not to right now. I know with much reflection the start of the new year will be bringing new things for my photography and this may include a pricing change. The reason being this. Each hour I spend takes me away from my babies and how much is time away from you kids worth?

I also hope to post a before and after photo sometime soon.

For now I keep loving what I do and passing it on to you :-)

sometimes a picture just hits me and i just love it. This is one of those pictures. I love how his brother (twin :) is looking at him and he is looking right at the camera. These little guys are always on the move! They have a great mom who knows just what to do with them. And yes he is supposed to be a bit blurry in the back.

So this was a tough session. The littliest guy cried whenever mom would put him down. He was so tired by the end of it I got some of him sleeping. It was 4 cousins which actually worked out well. I still miss the great outdoors though. Kiddos are so much happier outside, I am too if the weather is nice. Plus it is easier to be more creative photographically.

I recently purchased a new lens for my camera. I love it. I had been wanting this one for a while. Here is a shot with it. What is the difference you may be wondering. The background is blurry and it lets in more light, which helps tremendously in Michigan! I did very little to edit this photo. You can decide which you like better color or black and white.

so this isn't really my thing but some people do like this. I prefer this effect with flowers, I DID NOT change the color of her eyes I just turned everything else black and white. I am curious to know what you think :)

2008 favorites

I love this little girls eyes in this one and I like the blade of grass in the foreground.
I like this photo because it is just a great "traditional" family portrait with a little twist of being off centered. Which makes it a little bit more artistic.
I just love the emotion of the mom and baby in this one.

This little girl is just adorable there were a lot of good ones of her but for some reason this one really stood out in my mind. I like the shadows over her eyes.
I just like the smile in this one and how the beautiful yellow flowers are blurred in the background.
This is probably one of my all time favorite family pictures. This was out at their family cottage. People mistakenly think that you always need to be looking at the camera. I like to capture true joy when people are not always looking. They are just having fun being with each other, and they are not "stiffly posed".
This one reminds me of cotton candy.

One of the things that people mistakenly think when having their portrait session is that they need to look perfect and wear perfect clothing. I guess in my opinion I prefer plain simple clothing. You don't have to look like a model but I like to make people look the best that they can and bring out their true beauty. I want people to remember what their children are like when they look at a photo. How they are at that moment. To create a lasting treasure, and a piece of art that will stay up on your wall for a long time. Something that you don't want to take down. That is what I strive for as an photographic artist. Ok so I did go over the limit of 10 photos. I could not help it. :) there were just so many. I also wanted to show a variety.

1. This one makes me laugh every time I look at it...

2. I just love the little boy being himself in this one. This was one of his mom's favorite too.
3. I love the little girl holding on to her daddy's leg. How priceless.

4. This one is just different, but that is why i like it. I was trying something different in this one. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not. In this case I think it did. The mom in the photo liked it too.

5. This one just reminds me of being a little girl. I love how the grass is scattered through out.

Rather than re-posting some of the ones already on here I decided to post some of my favorites that were not previously posted. I just wanted to say thank you to all my clients, family and friends for a wonderful year. God has blessed me in so many ways it is hard to comprehend all the blessings he has bestowed up me and my family. Many people have been asking me about doing pictures this winter. I do not have a studio but I have done photos in homes and outdoors. Many times children are more relaxed and comfortable in their own homes and what a great way to remember them. Lighting can be tricky this time of year, especially since December is so dreary. I am up for a challenge though! These are some I did recently for a Christmas card by their tree. I hope and pray you have had a blessed year and have another wonderful year to come. jbj

So the question has been asked, "do you do weddings?". No I don't. I don't want to be responsible for a live event. Would I do behind the scene photos at a wedding, along with another photographer, most likely :) but I don't want to be the main photographer. I did take a few at my sister-in-laws wedding this past weekend. This was one of my favorites. Being a bridesmaid in the wedding was such a privilege, I felt so honored to be a part of her special day. It was hard to give up my camera completely so I did get some. I love the way the light is coming through her veil in this one. She is so beautiful.

Engagement

So I was on vacation this past week. My sister in law got married. We traveled to Iowa for the wedding it was beautiful. More about that later. One of my other sisters-in-law (I have a total of 3 :) recently got engaged and I had the opportunity to do some engagement photos for them while we were down there. I had a great time photographing this upcoming high school senior. Some of these poses are not as traditional but I like the artistic feel of them. A little traditional, a little art. :) With as beautiful as she is wasn't hard to get great shots. Birthday Girl

I did a little "mini-session" with my niece tonight for her 5 yr picture. I can't believe she is going to be 5 already! I love black and white and I was tempted to post just the black and white ones up but other people prefer color. You may wonder too if I do anything to get eyes to light up like that, the answer is no I don't add "catch lights" to the eyes. It is all about shooting it. In fact I do as little editing as I can! I LOVE her eyes in the 3rd and 4th photo. She is always great about letting me take her photos, I call her my little model. Happy Birthday girl. Love you.

These two little girls were so cute tonight I couldn't help but make a storyboard of them. You could tell how much they loved each other. What a blessing. They were a lot of fun to photograph! I am not usually into props in photography but I do have 2 pink pettiskirts and a couple of hats that these girls just fell in love with, and they look adorable on them. :) Hopefully their mom likes these photos.

The 2 photos on the outside are the "vintage" color I can add that to any photo for an additional $1

I do not know what is with me and storyboards! This is a 10 x 10 pricing would be $22 for this particular design, unmounted. With mounting, sprayed $30. This would be a great addition to a baby's room and because of its size if you choose to not frame it would still fit in 12 x 12 photo album. I can customize the colors for girls too and change the wording.

This is an 11 x 14 size storyboard. If you notice the colors of the photos on either ends that is called "vintage" adds a little fun I think :) If I made one of these for a client it would be $45 with mounting. It is more than a regular 11 x 14 because of the design work involved in it. The 'B" is just to tell me what style it is :) it just happened to be in the wrong order...

High school Seniors

I would really like to photograph more high school seniors. I think it is a blast! I am so wanting to do this I am willing to offer seniors 2 locations for our photo shoots and an extended session for no extra fee. As an added bonus, for those that mention this blog I will do sheets of wallets for $8 when you order at least 10 sheets (8 wallets per sheet) that is a $40 savings valid only through September 2008. Sisters...

Sisters are such a wonderful gift from God. I am truly blessed. Here is my sister with her daughter. It is fun to capture these moments. Part of the reason I got into photography was so that I could bless others. That and I just love taking photographs. :) With mother's day coming up I hope she enjoys this one.
